Boroscope: no smoking gun
Good news bad news. I boroscoped my cylinders and didn’t find any evidence of something loose in there. The wideband was slightly loose so I tightened that up and spun it in flood clear mode so it didn’t fire. No sounds so I fired it up.
The noise came right back but this time the car was kind enough to give me a code. P0343- camshaft position high. That’s usually cam bolts on corvettes. However I did just have the manifold off multiple times so I popped it off to take a look. Nothing obvious like unplugged or broken wire. I guess I do the long annoying job of getting the front cover off next.
Weird coincidence it started right after the heads. Maybe the higher rate springs in the head just vibrated the cam more. At least the engine seems okay. Just a whole weekend ahead of getting the crank bolt off just to tighten a few screws. Makes sense if the timing cog is wobbling and the chain or bolts are scraping on the inside of the timing cover.
