Valley cover off: inspecting the cam bolts
I popped off the valley cover and got out the scope to inspect the cam bolts. They looked okay. No obvious wobble. They look snug.

However on the #2 cylinder cam lobe I notice spalling. Time to put in a new cam. I don’t know if the previous lifter failed, or the brand new one. Either way it’s trashed too.

The lifters look like the cam has walked back in the block somehow. That means that something is probably going on with the retainer up front. I can’t see until I get it off.

I was thinking it maybe needed a new cam anyways to take advantage of the heads. I’m going with a slightly more aggressive cam this time to take advantage of the extra flow the ported heads make at higher lift. Still relatively mild since common wisdom is about 600 max lift on a track cam to not stress the valvetrain.
