First autocross of 2026: Windy City BMW at Tire Rack

First autocross of the season today. I was out with Windy City BMW at TireRack in Indiana. We had a fairly long loopback course. Pretty sweeping design. I ended up first in my class by quite a margin, and 4th overall. We always get a little bit different crowd at this event. A lot of the locals don’t travel and it attracts some of the Michigan and Indiana people.

I swapped out my catalyst for my ipad mini today. The Garmin doesn’t do point to point timing. Unfortunately I must have done setup wrong and it wasn’t collecting my runs. I’ll have to give it another setup run in a parking lot. I also wrote an app that scrapes the timing site from the club and turns it into a much easier to use ios app. It mostly worked. A few minor bugs to run down. I have to consider redoing it as a web app. That way it’s OS agnostic and I don’t need a dev account to distribute.

Couple other thoughts from the trackday before- I noticed my clutch and brake getting a little soft. I assumed it was just air, but I think maybe my headers are boiling the fluid where it wraps around the frame. The clutch line is there too. I got some heat shielding to throw on before the next track day to see if it helps. Maybe I’ll get the chassis mount 9 lives wing on next weekend as well. I have a new clutch scheduled to go in on the 22nd. I bought the parts a while ago, but chickened out on the driveline drop.
